My doc called a little while ago. Turns out that I do have a gall stone, about a half inch in size, which is pretty big. It’s been causing my gall bladder to spasm, hence the pain and such. My doc wants me to have my gall bladder removed ASAP, and basically, if I start having constipation, nausea, fever…I’m to go to the emergency room immediately, do not pass go, as it means the stone has moved to a blocking position and then you get into the potential bursting and dying and so on.
But, to avoid that, I’m going with the “find surgeon, get stuff removed asap” plan. My doc gave me some names of people at Lake Forest hospital, which my DH has ascertained to be the better hospital in this area. My doc said that removing gall bladders and appendices (or is it appendixes when it’s medical?) is pretty much the bread and butter of the general surgeon, so basically, any of the general surgeons can do it.
I’m a bit freaked. I’ve never had surgery, short of getting teeth extracted (7 to date and counting!) and having a toenail removed. I can’t say I’m in love with the idea of someone yanking something out of me, even if it is something that I don’t really need anymore. 🙁 I really wish I could go home and take care of this, do research, and be alone with my misery for a bit, but I have work to do and it’s even more important now that I get it done.
