Not a good sign for cat integration…

There was a kitty incident last night, in which talented escape artist Choo-choo managed to run freely about the house for quite awhile. This left Maggie traumatized and hiding in a closet, to the point that she would not emerge even for treats, even once Choo-choo was re-captured…she hid. She didn’t trust me at all. She waited for Scott to come home, and he was able to coax her out of the closet.
She hid a little too well. I could not find her for a solid hour, which put me in tears, thinking she was scared and possibly hurt (else why wouldn’t she come out?) and OMG, etc. etc. I looked in the very closet she was hiding in, but she is a black cat primarily, and she has herself a shadowed corner behind some boxes that is her place apparently. From looking at it, it seems she hangs out there a good bit…there’s a coating of shedded hair on the carpet.
After finding her, I put her place back to how it was. If that is where she feels safe, I don’t want to rob her of that spot. But, this is not a good sign for things to come, I’m afraid…
The plan for tonight is to put Choo-Choo into a carrier to bring him to the 1st floor tonight. We’ll keep his carrier near us, and let Maggie adjust. Once Maggie seems comfortable with his presence, we proceed…with fingers and kitty toes crossed for luck…
